Severe Rainfall Alerts Across India: What You Need to Know

As the monsoon season intensifies, several regions in India are facing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red, orange, and yellow alerts in multiple states. Flooding, waterlogging, and travel disruptions are widespread. It’s essential to stay informed and prepared.

Regions Under Severe Rainfall Alerts

Kerala

Kerala is expecting heavy rainfall until June 18. Red alerts were issued for Malappuram and Kozhikode on June 17, then extended to Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod on June 18. Authorities have prohibited fishing activities due to rough weather.

Gujarat

Heavy rain has flooded 70 talukas in the Saurashtra region, causing rivers and lakes to overflow. A red alert is in effect for Amreli, Bhavnagar, Surat, Navsari, and Valsad, with severe waterlogging reported in Ahmedabad.

Madhya Pradesh

The southwest monsoon has reached southern Madhya Pradesh, bringing relief from the heat. However, heavy showers are expected to continue, impacting districts like Barwani, Khargone, and Burhanpur.

Other Affected States

- Maharashtra & Goa: Mumbai and nearby areas are under red and orange alerts due to continuous rainfall.

- Karnataka: Districts along the coast and Western Ghats are experiencing extremely heavy rainfall, with red and orange alerts issued.

- Odisha & West Bengal: Several districts are expected to face heavy rain and thunderstorms, increasing the risk of flooding.

With severe rainfall warnings active, residents in affected areas should:

- Avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors during heavy rain.

- Keep away from waterlogged roads and overflowing drains to prevent accidents.

- Follow official weather updates and evacuation guidelines.

- Secure essential supplies like food, water, and emergency kits.

Final Thoughts

Monsoon rains are crucial for India’s agriculture and water supply, but extreme weather events can create serious risks. Staying informed and taking precautions can help reduce disruptions and ensure safety during this time.

Stay safe and keep up with the latest weather updates!
